Ten million dollars to be divided equitably among the departed Grandfather Hunter's remaining family, with a proviso being, in proper legal terms, that the entire ten million dollars was to be held in trust for the exclusive use of Senorita Fogarty her lifetime, and for the lifetime of her pups (Senorita Fogarty being a Chihuahua of questionable breeding) and for the lifetime of her pup's pups, etc., etc. Only upon the death of Senorita Fogarty and her pups (if any) would the inheritance go to the family.
'Tis plain to see that the life of Senorita Fogarty wasn't worth two cents, much less ten million dollars. But to the rescue! Our senorita is to be protected by the Crumps, Grandfather Hunter's trusted servants. And did we forget to mention that the erstwhile heirs are a rather bungling, ineffectual lot? Will Senorita Fogarty outwit the scheming Hunter family? Will the Hunters regain the birthright that is undeniably theirs (all ten million dollars' worth)? Will the Crumps . . . oh, forget it - just listen to the book!

I was drawn to read this because a friend of mine was involved in a somewhat similar situation, although not nearly as convoluted. This book is not strong on character, which is normally important to me, but the humor, which kept me thinking of Charles Addams, carried the story along. No-one is terribly likeable, but my amusement at their maneuvers was sufficient to make them enjoyable to watch.
What the synopsis doesn't make clear is that the servants are not motivated entirely by loyalty to their deceased employer, Hunter, or love of Senorita Fogarty, but by the fact that they have a cushy set-up, continuing to live in the mansion and being paid to take care of the dog. So they have every reason to want her to have puppies, and grandpuppies, etc., at least as long as they are alive. It probably seemed like a good idea to Hunter at the time. The would-be human heirs might have put up, unwillingly and with ill-grace to waiting for the Senorita to die of natural causes, but of course, the prospect of having their inheritance delayed to the end of a potentially long line of pups makes them desperate.
In the end, all maneuvers fail and the resolution takes everyone by surprise.

Skulldoggery (Audible Audio Edition) Fletcher Flora Renee Raudman Audible Studios Books Reviews
Readable but not very amusing. I must be a prig. I did not find any of the characters likeable. I did not find the scheming of all the characters for the money funny. I suppose it was suppose to be satire. I am giving three stars so. I do not change its avg rating. it was not bad, I just did not enjoy reading it.
The resolution was quite a surprise! A light treatment of unworthy heirs who are so close to the inheritance they longed for & a clever investigation. Doesn't say much for the class of retainers. tch! tch!
A selfish, money-hungry family eagerly awaits reading the will of a rich relative, and are disappointed to find out that the only thing standing between them and the expected inheritance is the life of a chihuahua. The different members begin different strategies to do away with the chihuahua. I was expecting humor, and there are a couple of smirks in the book, but it's not very funny, and the mystery isn't very interesting. There are too many characters in the short book, and viewpoint shifts too often for us to see any of them in any depth. The writing isn't awful, but the best I can say about it is that it is workmanlike. This short book is not very entertaining, and I recommend skipping it.
